Clowance Estate

The Clowance Estate once home to one of Cornwall’s most well known aristocratic families is now one of the finest holiday resorts in the world, recently receiving Interval International’s Premier Resort Award.

The ancient manor of Clowance was the seat of the St Aubyn family from 1380 and the family was granted Arms in 1545. John St Aubyn purchased St Michael’s Mount in 1659 and his son John was awarded a title of a Baronetcy in 1671 who later represented St Michaels in the House of Commons.

Clowance Estate is situated in the centre of the Cornish countryside, between Falmouth and St. Ives. Set in 97 acres of magnificently landscaped parkland and woodlands, Clowance Estate comprises of an 18th Century manor house and its own private golf course.

The grounds offer enchanting pathways with over 50 species of trees consisting of various unusual species including the Chusan Palms from the Yangtze River and other rare plans such as the Mexican Fleabane.

Clowance can be easily reached from all over the UK via the M5 and A30. Located just 12 miles from Penzance and roughly 5 miles from both the north and south coasts makes it easy to enjoy the many attractions that Cornwall has on offer.

The Resort

Clowance offers an outstanding variety of luxurious holiday accommodation. Each of the 108 splendidly selected holiday homes is carefully designed to blend with the natural surrounding countryside and provide total privacy from the adjacent holiday homes.

Every unit is furnished to provide every requirement for self-catering, from linen, towels and duvets to hairdryer, TV, DVD and CD player along with crockery, cutlery, glassware and cookware and fully equipped kitchen. A number of units include washing machines

and tumble dryers, however there are guests launderettes on site.

There is a vast range of facilities at Clowance including the multi-million pound leisure centre, year round entertainment for Children, along with a Kid’s club during the school holidays.

The Area

Camborne was originally just a little hamlet surrounded by moorlands, but in the early 19th Century the mining boom created growth in the area through the tin and copper mines and Camborne came into its own. Since then, the area has been shaped from years of emigration, but you can still see the many fine buildings and institutions from this era. Follow the Town Trail and introduce yourself to Camborne’s architecture and history.

The Clowance Estate is situated perfectly to explore the nearby area. Local beaches include Bassetts Cove, a small sandy beach located between Godrevey and Portreath at the bottom sheer cliffs. The beach of Portreath is set in a steep valley, mostly sand with some shingle. Home of a small harbour, once a busy port, now houses the occasional fishing boat.

The well known town of St. Ives is just a short drive away, a picturesque area filled with quaint alleys and old houses, still possesses a timeless quality. Home to a branch of the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum, it has many interesting exciting places to visit or just sit and watch the world go by on the front or in one of the many eateries and bars.
