An Ideal Get Away in Western Scotland at Seasons Holidays Brunston Castle

Resort:

Seasons Holidays Brunston Castle is a small ruin in the middle of a golf course and gives it's name to Seasons' Scottish resort. When considering somewhere to go in late March or early April, I am sure not many people would stick a pin in Scotland, unless they had a reason to go there which didn't include lying in the sun and swimming in the sea.

However, for quiet undisturbed sleep, beautiful surroundings and wonderful sunrise and sunset landscapes, Seasons at Brunston Castle takes a lot of beating.

We are new to Seasons, having only bought into time-share last October, and Brunston Castle was our first standalone visit to a Seasons resort. We had visited Laugharne Park twice before as guests of member friends and have been to Alpinus in the Algarve. It was therefore with a little tredipation that we arranged our visit to Brunston Castle. My wife had arranged for her parents to accompany us from their own home near Dumfries, and together we travelled up to Dailly, just outside Girvan.

We had booked a two bed 4 person unit and were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find ourselves allocated a 4 bed 8 person unit. I was amazed that although it still looked like a 2 bedroom chalet it had two bedrooms and a bathroom underneath, built into the hillside. Look at the pictures of these very spacious units - the pictures actually don't do justice to them. We were amazed by the size inside. The main room, a lounge/diner was enormous and dominated by a huge LCD HDTV and sported really comfortable seating, ample for up to 10 people. Everything that we are used to at home was there at hand in the well equipped kitchen. The Seasons team had even placed a bud vase with a couple of flowers in on the dining table.

The resort is approached from the village of Dailly and up the road to the golf club where the resort's own road then turns off to the right and up the hill. The reception area is well laid out in the leisure complex and the staff were helpful and friendly. Check-in only took two minutes and less than 10 minutes after our arrival we had the kettle on in our chalet. We walked out onto the balcony/patio which stands on stilts above the lower floor area and noted the well chosen patio furniture. The view from there was breathtaking, looking over the top of the golf club and out over the golf course towards the coast with the mysterious island of Ailsa Craig in the distance.

The first thing I noticed was the silence. It reminded me of a recent advertisement for a holiday destination company where silence is a selling point. As I stood on that patio, all I could here were a dozen birds calling to one another. The sun was approaching its last few moments at that time and to see the effects as it dropped below one of the hills to the north west of the resort was something not to miss.

The next day when we awoke we went for a walk in the bright sunshine, weakened by the fact it was late March, and enjoyed the pine and spruce woods around the area. If walking or just sight-seeing in Scotland is your forte then don't miss a visit to Brunston Castle. However, if I may give one small point of advice, if you are not flying into Glasgow and using a hire car to get to Brunston, but are driving up anywhere south of Manchester, then stop overnight somewhere around the lakes or sooner, because it will take about 3 hours from the top of the M6 to get to the resort. It might be wise to plan an overnight stop on the home run too.

My wife and I and her parents would like to thank all the team at Brunston Castle and Seasons Holidays for a really great time. We'll be back!
